hey La Carnita, those are damn tasty tacos!

I finally got to try La Carnita‘s tacos.  Toronto’s new-ish pop-up event, featuring the unique pairing of Art & Tacos, La Carnita was born of a media experiement.  OneMethod Media is the brainchild behind this Toronto cool-kid phenomenon; last July, they decided to get word out that they’d be selling one-of-a-kind Art, and as a loot bag goodie, you’d get some authentic, creative tacos.  What was the experiment’s hypothesis?  Wheat were they trying to figure out? How, How fast, and How well would the news of yummy tacos reach the masses?

Foodie blogs started buzzing about these elusive tacos .. where would the next pop-up be?  The blogs spoke of tacos so yummy.. they were maybe the best in the city?  According to OneMethod’s website, the experiement was a success.  Twitter proved that word would indeed get out to the masses.  The first pop-up event sold out 100 prints and 300 tacos in under 45 minutes.

Last Friday, at the new ping-pong hall / bar SPiN Toronto, I finally got to try these tacos.  For $10, I got a classic La Carnita print and three tacos: 1) Braised Oxtail & Ancho with sweet pickled onion 2) Compressed Celery + bitters + coriander emulsion + fermented serrano pepper + pork rinds 3) your choice of Steak Tartare with Jalepno Aioli and Watercress Tostata OR Achiote chicken with Guac, Queso, Salsa and Cilantro sprouts.

All I can say is … La Carnita, you lived up to the hype.  The tacos were damn good.

La Carnita is a pop-up Art & Taco innovation.

Keep your eyes peeled (via Twitter / Facebook) for upcoming events!!
